We were there on a Sunday so there wasn’t anyone working on design but it was a cool museum without that. The museum is in a newer and obviously modern building.
Level 1 of the museum was devoted to Bethan Laura Wood. This is part of a planned series covering a different contemporary designer each year. Her work was fascinating. In addition to the finished pieces, the displays also showed how the pieces were constructed.
These tea cups were designed to absorb the tea and “season” to reveal a pattern. I would have bought one if there were any for sale in the gift shop. (Which had lots of other interesting items.)
There were plenty of standing displays too. They had one on the London tub map of course. They also had a room mocking up a modern “fitted” kitchen. And lots of displays of smaller items, like the history of mobile phones in objects. The museum is larger than it appears at a glance; there are lots of things lurking behind the walls facing the stairways. Entry is free, though some exhibitions have a separate charge.
