The British Museum

One nice thing about staying in Bloomsbury is that the British Museum is right there, so you can drop in whenever.

The museum is huge, so any visit will probably only scratch the surface. We visited the museum in 2012 and started with the Greek area so we skipped that this time. We walked through the Egyptian section on the way to Assyria. It’s easy to get distracted.

The entrance to the Assyrian section is impressive. How did I not remember this from last time?

The Assyrian section had lots of detailed wall frescoes, like this bird god and the hunting scene with chari0ts.

Some of our favorites were those that included water, that had lots of underwater texture and detail.

Since we live in North America we thought we should visit that area. There were items representing indigenous cultures from across the continent. I especially enjoyed the spike heeled high tops.

The Mexican section had a statue that looked like a poop emoji at first glace. It was, however, a snake, and was displayed so you could see the detail inside the hollow statue.

In the Asian area there was a nice section on jade. We had no idea jade came in any color other than green.

The Indian section was new to us and was also colorful, with lots of intricate carvings.

Since we were there in October there was a Halloween-themed display of skeletons on flying horses. And bugs? At least I assume that’s what this was. It was cool, anyway. The British Museum is free; there’s a line for security.
