Sennen Cove

Land's End is better known but Sennen Cove sounded both quieter and more scenic. And you can see/walk to Land's End from there.

We saved Sennen Cove for the day with the best weather forecast. We took the bus from Penzance and saw some nice rural scenery along the way, including a stone circle.

We also saw evidence of why we don’t drive on vacation. Narrow roads with overhanging trees (more an issue for double-decker buses), horses and other animals, and more importantly other vehicles. This car had to back up a long way before there was a turnout for the bus to pass.

Sennen Cove is a small settlement strung out along the shore and up the hills. From the village you could see surfers in the distance. There are places to sleep, eat, and drink, and an RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) post where we bought a glass fishing float. (That broke on the way home. )

A trail goes up the hill at the south end of the village. We’d read it was steep, but it was well surfaced and had steps in places so it was no problem even for us. Once at the top its a broad grassy flat with lots of ways to wander.

We liked this pointy rock with all the texture. The cliffs are dramatic.

From Sennen Cove you can follow the South West Coast Path about a mile to Land’s End. It looked doable.

Besides the rock formations we also saw plants and lichen on the rocks. There’s a shipwreck along the coast also.

One our way back down to the village we noticed someone painting along the shore. You hear about this area being known for artists. It was nice to see one in action.
