This hike was recommended to us by our host. The hike to Ram Head starts at Salt Pond on the Coral Bay end of the island. We found the entrance to Salt Pond with no problem. Finding the trail was more challenging. We went over to the salt pond itself first, then back. Thankfully we ran into others who had done the trail before and helped us find the beginning of the trail, which was on the other side of a rocky beach. The trail was hot, sunny, and windy but not strenuous. Bring plenty of water; there’s not much shade. There were great views of each side of the peninsula and the south coast of St John as you get onto the Ram Head itself. We also saw lots of Turk’s cap cactus, for which the area is famous.
While there was no one at the beach in the morning when we started, there were several groups at the beach when we got back. The Salt Pond beach is a destination on its own.
