Pseudocraters

The pseudocraters at Skútustaðir on the south end of Lake Mývatn are scenic in themselves and also offer views of the surrounding area.

The smooth, rolling pseudocraters are a stark contrast to the jagged lava formations just up the road at Dimmuborgir.

We didn’t see a lot of wildlife in Iceland. We did see these ducks near the pseudocraters. There’s a farm nearby so we also saw signs (literally!) of farming and livestock.

We didn’t have a lot of time to walk around because we had a reservation at the Mývatn Nature Baths, but we did climb up the first large crater. There were good views from there and while the trail had a short steep stretch and there were stairs, the footing was good. It wasn’t too strenuous.
