We took the bus (#66) from Cheltenham to Painswick, stopping first at the Painswick Rococo Garden, which is uphill from the village. It was a nice scenic ride through the Cotswolds.
Painswick was the least touristy of the places we visited. Just lots of narrow streets lined with buildings in the local stone.
Painswick is famous for St Mary’s Church and the surrounding yews. Rumor is no one can accurately count how many yews there are. We didn’t try. It was fun to wander around them. The bus stop is right near the church.
As charming as the narrow streets are, I don’t think I could park there. I’d be driving into that window well for sure.
We are continually amazed at how buses navigate these narrow roads. If it’s not buildings in town it’s trees hanging over the road. We wonder if they get pruned intentionally or if the buses do it. The branches make a racket when the bus hits them.
