Paddle Steamer Trip

Our one must-do in Echuca was to take a trip on a paddle steamer. It was a pleasant couple of hours.

Our trip was on the Pevensey, the boat used as the Philadelphia in the mini-series All the Rivers Run. Which is the whole reason we came here, so it was nice to ride on the same boat. Here it is at the dock.

On board there’s a café/bar at the front. We bought some cider for the trip. At the back of the boat is seating on bales. We had a nice view of other boats on the river.

Here’s the Pevensey on the river.

We saw other paddle steamers on the river and on land. There were also more modern tour boats, and a number of houseboats.

Besides the boats there were people hanging out on the riverbank at different points. You have to zoom in to see it, but that white boat on land is called “Gilligan’s Island.”

The river was plenty wide enough for boats to pass. We went down the river a stretch then turned around and came back. It was enough time to get a feel for the river and being on the boat without getting bored.

They had some of the rooms on the boat staged as cabins and a small dining room. You can also see the steam engine in action. The Philadelphia sign and the poster next to it are from the mini-series.
