Taronga Zoo

Sydney and Melbourne each have a zoo and an aquarium. We opted to visit the zoo in Sydney because it sounded like the setting on a hill overlooking the harbour was interesting in itself.

Manly Beach

Manly Beach is big and beautiful even in the rain. And even if you’re not crazy about the beach, the ferry ride to get there is worth it for the scenery.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk

Harbour Bridge and Opera House

You can pay (lots of money) to climb the bridge and we saw people doing that. We opted for the free version of just walking on the bridge. I don’t know what the views are like on top, but they were great from where we were, even in less than ideal weather.

Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

The gardens are beautiful and a great place to stroll, with lots of lawns. We saw a lot of the gardens because they were between where we stayed in Woolloomooloo and central Sydney. And we like gardens.

Clouds obscuring buildings

To be honest, I didn’t love Sydney. But I think a lot of that is due to the weather, which was rainy the entire time we were there. So we couldn’t really do some of the outdoor activities we had planned. What we were able to do, we enjoyed. The opera was everything we hoped for and more.
