Marylebone

One of the "to-do" items for this trip to London was to explore a new neighborhood. So I chose Marylebone. Which was not totally new, but I didn't remember the High Street.

To be honest it wasn’t a completely new neighborhood. I mean, I got married there the first time. But that was a looooong time ago. And I didn’t remember the High Street, which had an Allbirds store and I wanted to try some on. So that’s where we headed.

The High Street was pleasant. Lots of shops besides Allbirds, like this bookshop. And lots of cafes and such, and this corner pub.

From the High Street we headed for Regent’s Park, by way of Baker Street, which of course means Sherlock Holmes. We walked past his statue and the museum at 221b. And The Volunteer pub that hosted my wedding reception years ago.

Regent’s Park had a nice pond that we walked around. Lots of water birds to observe, like this coot.

Back on the city streets, we planned our route back by way of The Wallace Collection, a collection of art and other items in and old mansion. Some of the guns were quite pretty. I can see why people would collect these. And then there was the walking stick hiding a sword and wheel-lock pistol. Talk about concealed carry!

The art collection included more Canalettos. This is now the third place in London we’ve seen them, after Sir John Soane’s museum and The National Gallery. He’s known for highly detailed paintings of Venice.

The furniture collection had some interesting pieces also.

And there’s a staircase just made for dramatic entrances. Or exits, in our case, as we headed home.
