The Island trail follows the shore of Hamlin Lake, including a narrow island in between Hamlin Lake and Lost Lake. There are beautiful views of open water on both lakes plus forest. The Island trail then extends up the Hamlin Lake shoreline. We followed it a little way, but it smelled bad due to algae, so we turned back to the Lost Lake trail. This trail climbs a bluff at the north end of Lost Lake and follows the west shore of the lake, partly by boardwalk. Since you trace the outline of Lost Lake you get lots of views and vantage points of the lake.
We hiked portions of the Island trail and Lost Lake trail at Ludington State Park.
