Destinations in Asia

sunset over temple
Bangkok was neither as crowded or as gritty as I thought it might be. And I don't know what Khao San Road used to be like but I wouldn't call it dead.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai city walls
Chiang Mai was a pleasant place to acclimate to Thailand for a few days.

Khao Sok

Cheow Larn Lake with flowers
I scheduled our entire trip around THIS tour, the centerpiece of our 5 weeks in Thailand. It was so worth it!

Koh Lanta

yellow cart and flowers
While the beach at Koh Lanta was not as nice as on other islands the atmosphere was more relaxed. We enjoyed our stay.

Koh Lipe

sunset at beach
Koh Lipe was much like expected. Another relaxed island with beautiful beaches. We really liked being able to snorkel from shore in front of our hotel.

Koh Samui

Chaweng beach
Chaweng Beach was so serene we couldn't drag ourselves away from it. Soft white sand, warm calm water, shade, and a beach bar.

Koh Tao

beach with beach bar
There are things to do on Koh Tao. We just didn't do them. The beach was too nice.

Krabi Town

river at Krabi
We stayed in Krabi Town thinking it would be more convenient for day trips and continuing to Koh Lanta but Ao Nang would be a good option also.

hotel lounge
We stayed in Phuket town, which had good shopping and restaurants, interesting architecture, and easy access to day tours to Phang Nga Bay.

pagoda roof
Singapore was the mix of traditional and modern that I was hoping for. Gardens by the Bay was the highlight for us.

brightly lit skyscrapers
Tokyo was far less intimidating than I feared. It was easy to get around using the subway and people were kind and helpful. It was the mix of traditional and bleeding edge that I hoped for.
