North Dakota to Michigan
The Lake Superior shore in Minnesota and Michigan were nice stopovers on the way back from Glacier National Park. Especially in the fall. We spent two nights in Minnesota and two nights in Marquette, Michigan.

It’s a long drive from mid-Michigan to Glacier National Park and not a lot along the way.
What was originally supposed to be a trip to three national parks ended up being just a road trip to Glacier, since the Canadian border was closed due to COVID-19. But we hit some interesting spots on the way there and the way back.
This is an easy hike along a service road. Bikes or other wheeled vehicles could likely manage it too. Nice dune scenery.
It’s an easy paddle on a lazy river up the Big Sable River from the beach at Lake Michigan to the dam.
We spent five glorious days kayaking and hiking at Ludington State Park on the shores of Lake Michigan. My favorite Michigan state park.
Interlochen State Park is in a beautiful area, including M-22, the Traverse City area, and Duck Lake, where we went kayaking. We camped for three nights. You could easily spend more time here and use this as a base for exploring the area.
We camped for three days at Young State Park, the more modern state park near Charlevoix. Boyne City is an even closer cute little town.
